Mike Gundy Coaching Record: Oklahoma State’s Winningest Coach Bids Farewell

Mike Gundy journey as head coach of Oklahoma State football has come to an end after 21 long seasons. His final coaching record stands at 170 wins and 90 losses, making him the winningest coach in school history.

For nearly two decades, Gundy turned OSU into a consistent winner. From 2006 to 2023, the Cowboys never had a losing season and went to a bowl game every single year. That’s 18 straight winning years and 18 bowl trips – a school record that may not be matched anytime soon.

But the last two years were tough. The Cowboys finished 3-9 in 2024 and started 1-2 in 2025, which led to the university letting him go in September 2025.

    Career Totals at Oklahoma State

    • Seasons: 21 (2005–2025)
    • Record: 170–90 (.654)
    • Bowls: 18 appearances (11–7)
    • Big 12 Titles: 1 (2011)

When Gundy became head coach in 2005, Oklahoma State wasn’t a football powerhouse. The school’s all-time record was below .500. By the time he left, OSU had flipped the script — consistently finishing in the Top 25 and even reaching No. 3 in the nation in 2011.

The Cowboys beat ranked opponents, produced NFL stars like Dez Bryant, Justin Blackmon, Tyreek Hill, and Emmanuel Ogbah, and built both high-powered offenses and strong defenses.

Gundy’s teams were explosive. Since 2010, they averaged 36.5 points per game, one of the best marks in college football. His 2011 team was especially dominant, winning the Big 12 and the Fiesta Bowl against Stanford.

    The End of an Era

Despite his success, the last two seasons were tough. Injuries, inconsistency, and struggles in big rivalry games against Oklahoma wore down his once-untouchable legacy.

OSU officials said the move was about returning to “championship-level football.” Fans, meanwhile, are left remembering the highs: 18 years of winning, unforgettable stars, and the most stable period in program history.

Mike Gundy leaves Stillwater as more than just a coach. He’s an alum, a former star quarterback, and the man who gave Oklahoma State its proudest football years.

170 wins. 90 losses. One Big 12 title. 18 straight winning seasons.

That’s the legacy of the winningest coach in OSU history.
